An Introduction to City of Heroes/Villains

This book will guide you through the basics of the game.  There is a glossary of common terms and answers to questions most people seem to have.  It will also cover basic things about teaming, and etiquette, and touch on the role playing aspect a bit.

User Interface

Your screen will be filled with a lot of stuff.  This book will guide you through it all.  From how to use and set up the different chat channels, to why you have over 20 different channels.  It also covers keybinds, emotes, macros, and pretty much everything else that shows up in the windows.

Combat

Listen up!  It's a war out there.  It's us against them, and "them" has a lot more guys.  If you want to succeed, you need to know the basics of combat, and some of the advanced tactics.  You need to know how to pull.  You need to know when to rush, and when to run.  You need to know about damage mitigation. You need to know about the different types of damage, different ranges, and how buffs and debuffs work. How to make the best use of the Assist feature, and just what an Anchor is. And just in case things don't go your way, we'll go over what happens when you lose.  Now get out there and start handing out butts!

Heroes and Villains

Okay, this is what we came here for.  Getting a character out of the creation screen and onto the streets.  This book will cover things that happen from the time you hit the tutorial until about level 5.  This includes enhancements, contacts, special missions, teaming, and trading.

The Real World

Now that we've covered the basics, it's time to get dangerous.  From level 5 to level 50 in one fell swoop.  This will cover the different systems that let 50s team with 5s, Supergroups and a bit on bases, shopping for new and better enhancements, getting new outfits and earning capes and auras.

Zones and Travel

The Cities are divided up into sections called zones.  Each zone has its own feel and unique elements.  This book will present each one in a fair amount of detail, as well as providing links to another site that has interactive and printable maps.

Right now, this section is terribly incomplete.  I wanted to actually something put up though.  I'ts been just sitting here too long.

Powersets

Every character will have two of these that will be with them from day one.  They are the tools with which you interact with the rest of the game.  Tanks and Brutes can fight with an Axe and Shield, or they can fight with Super Strength and  just being too damn tough to get hurt.  Corruptors and Defenders can buff, debuff and heal, but they can also blast their foes with Ice, or Energy, or Dark Energy.  There are many sets available, and this book will give an overview of each power, broken down by Archetype.

Economics

This game, like most, has an economy.  Unlike most games, the economy here is totally optional.  This book will cover not just the Market, but the crafting of Invention Origin enhancements, which are the main driving force behind the market.

Creative Outlets

There are a number of features in the game that don't require fighting to enjoy.  The first one is the costume creator.  This is the one everyone will have to use at least a little bit.  Once level 10 comes around, it's possible to start a Supergroup and get a base.  This opens up Base Building, which can tie up a great deal of time.  Finally (coming in early 2009) is the Mission Architect.  This is a feature that will let players create missions from scratch to share with the rest of the players, as well as rate the missions and stories of others.

This section is also imcomplete.

In addition to all the other stuff in this section, I've included my own views on some aspects of the game, like power leveling, and the best way to get XP.  This will also have a lot of links to other sites, and the main CoH/CoV sites.
